Comic 49: A Rare Opportunity - Cover

found in Rare A Rare Opportunity - Cover

So, this is the cover/teaser image for an upcoming "history" short story, about Rare's backstory from making Nintendo games to joining Microsoft...
(Title subject to change)

Also... I recently reached 30 subscribers on CF! Thank you, everyone! :D

Additionally, you might have noticed I started adding the URL on my comic strips - I've also gone back and done this to several earlier strips (will do rest later) This is because I found out from... sources... that at some point, someone posted several Consolers strips to 9gag or memecenter or another site like that, most likely without crediting me. So, if this ever happens again at least my URL is there.

Yay! I love your history comics (the Atari one brought back SOOOOOOOO many memories).

And congratulations on 30 subs! :)

You deserve every single one, and many more. Seriously!

Thanks! Been a while since my last one, so it's time again :D

And thanks! Plus, that's just CF subscribers, also got 17 subs on Tapastic, a few fans on dA and several friends not using any of those sites. So I've already got quite a few fans :D

Awesome! Looking forward to how Rare totally shot themselves in the foot.

by Zanreo at 2nd May 2015, 3:35 PM

Hehe, yes, I'm looking forwards to drawing that too :D

To be fair, I don't know if it's Rare that just happened to make crappier games when they moved away from Nintendo, Microsoft's micro-management that hurt their quality, or just a change in consumer tastes that left Rare's work marginalized (especially since so many of their Microsoft games started as super-delayed Nintendo projects). Certainly games like Kameo, Viva Pinata, and Grabbed by the Ghoulies wouldn't appeal as much on a "dudebro" console like the XBox 360 as they would on a family-friendly "kiddie" Nintendo system

by Zanreo at 3rd May 2015, 1:28 AM

Yeah, I suspect at least a mix of the last 2... Not really surprising those games didn't sell well on Xbox, I suspect they could have done pretty well or at least better on Gamecube/Wii...
And after that they just got pushed away to Kinect, wasting away what talent was left. It's a pretty sad story...

Anyway, I'm pretty excited for the upcoming Yooka-Laylee, will be fun to see what the old Rare team can do :D

To be fair, the writing was probably on the wall with Star Fox Adventures, their last Nintendo game...

by Zanreo at 5th May 2015, 3:00 AM

Tre... but considering it was also originally going to be something else called Dinosaur Planet, then Nintendo made them turn it into a Star Fox game instead... I guess executive meddling has been bad for them in general.

This looks to be a cool story. History comics are awesome!

by Zanreo at 2nd May 2015, 3:33 PM

Thanks! Looking forwards to drawing this :D

by MadJak91 at 2nd May 2015, 2:51 PM

This is going to be a great history lesson when done as your comic :D

by Zanreo at 2nd May 2015, 3:42 PM

Indeed :D

I actually really like this as a standalone image, as this tells quite a story of its own. (The dejection/frustration on Nintendo's face is awesome.) That said, looking forward to seeing what you do with it!

Thanks! :D
